Senior-Buddies

Information for Senior Buddies

Are you interested in volunteering alongside your studies and passing your knowledge on to the next generation?

Then you’ve come to the right place: We will match you with a junior buddy who you can support during their studies.

As a bonus, you will receive a participation/volunteering certificate, can take part in various workshops and learn skills, which will help you later on in your career.

  • Support for all questions and problems relating to studies
  • Volunteering experience
  • Workshop offers
  • Opportunity to establish your own peer-group network
  • Personal development and acquisition of soft skills

You will meet your junior buddy partner at the first event. After that, we all meet up every four to six weeks for exchange and information events. We also offer workshops in which you can learn important skills for day-to-day university life. In between, you meet up with your buddy so you can get to know each other better and spend time together. You agree between you where, when and for how long you meet (we recommend meeting up at least once a month). At the concluding event, we celebrate your successes, ask for your feedback and award the volunteering certificates to the senior buddies. After the buddy programme, you can join the FirstGenCommunity in the FirstGenClub.

All buddy programme participants receive a participation certificate. To receive a volunteering certificate, you must meet up regularly with your buddy and take part in the programme events on a regular basis. Over the course of the year, you should accumulate at least 20 hours of activities within the framework of the programme.

...there are big problems to deal with or further advice is needed?

You are not alone. If there’s an issue you cannot solve on your own or you have problems with each other, then please let us at the Diversity Section know. We will provide initial advice and point you to other contacts who can provide concrete support where necessary.

...you and your buddy aren’t a good match after all?

Please let us know as quickly as possible if you aren’t satisfied. We will try and organise a new match. That’s fair for everyone involved.

...a buddy moves or abandons their studies?

Please let us know as quickly as possible so we can find a suitable solution promptly.
