Kick-Off of the buddy program "1stGeneration@HHU"

Since the summer semester 2019 the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf has had the new Buddy Program "1stGeneration@HHU". This program supports first and second semester students, so-called junior buddies, who are the first generation to study in the family, in starting their studies and studying. They are accompanied for 12 months by experienced students, the senior buddies. They often also have the experience to be the first in the family to study.
The first 18 participants were introduced to each other on June 6th at the kick-off event. They will spend much time together in the coming months and in this period also from the coordination place Diversity as well as the co-operation partners, like for example ArbeiterKind.de, accompanied and supported. Thus there are common meetings with adviser inside to most diverse topics approximately around the study to the HHU as well as an responding leisure program, in order to know itself better and to interlace.
"We are curious to see which questions the buddies have under their nails and which individual needs they have. We are also very pleased that we have found motivated senior buddies who want to get involved with others in addition to their studies," says Anna Hollstegge, project manager at the Diversity Coordination Office.  


[1] According to the University Report 2020 of the Stifterverband, only 21 out of every 100 primary school pupils from non-academic families will study, whereas 74 out of every 100 children in academic families will do so.
